Despite forgetting lots of things lately, my brain has been put to good use, writing several articles and preparing a presentation. This was quite an achievement in my current state of mind! So this morning I enjoyed some light activity in the form of cutting out fabric squares for a quilt for Hannah. This is the first 'utilitarian' quilt I have done in a long time, and I am looking forward to the simplicity of it!I just cleared the dinner table so I could lay out the squares as I would like them. Then I turned my back for a moment only to return and find Hannah with a puzzle laid out over half the table, so my plans are on hold right now - good chance for a blog post and some reading! (With Caleb marching through the house right now on a mission to make as much mess as possible, I can't use the floor, either.)

Will you use a pattern like round the world or random?
It'll be random- I much prefer that, and also, most of the squares are scraps, so there are random amounts of squares to work with!
wow - that is different for you! I just finished a quilt top that Chiara put together with all vintage muted florals. All squares, with 10 year old imperfections - I love it! I am going to sandwich it on Friday which might be a bit of a prob - I think we are inventing a new type of "Wobbly quilt"! ps. lay the squares out, go away, come back, fix any real bloopers and then take a photo of it to remind yourself of the design. A kid (and mum) friendly way of remembering what goes where. Saw the idea on a scrappy quilt blog and it works! - Tash (and here I am telling you what to do :) )
Thanks for the tip, Tash. I hadn't thought of that yet. I'm curious how you and Chiara are going to quilt the squares? I am tossing up between simple ditch-stitching along the seams, or diagonally both ways through each square...
I'm going to go diagonal - masking tape it and then Chiara can do it. My walking foot is quite easy to use and chugs along at a reasonable speed so I'm hoping she'll be able to do most of it :)
